Policies & EtiquetteGolf etiquette is a skill that is learned, practiced and respected.Golf Etiquette is an attitude we revere and honor here at The Golf Courses at Incline Village. Golf etiquette teaches us golfers, young and old, the importance of history and tradition. The most valuable lesson we can follow is integrity. When we practice integrity, we respect other golfers by replacing divots, repairing ball marks and raking bunkers. Golf etiquette is no different then the customs practiced in business, dining and in other social settings. Replacing DivotsThe Golf Courses at Incline Village expect all golfers to due diligence when replacing a fairway or rough divot. The varieties of our golf courses turf grasses allow the golfer to replace a divot with the root system intact with a more rapid recovery then trying to establish the divot area by seed. Other golf courses you may play, in warmer climates have Bermuda grass, which is typically not replaced, because of its aggressive horizontal growth characteristics. After a golf shot, either good or bad, it is the golfer’s responsibility to locate, place and stamp all divots. Replacing divots should always be the first option. If the turf is not salvageable, sand and seed is always the second best option (which you will find in your golf cart). If you have any questions please visit www.usga.org/turf/articles/educational_video_clips for several helpful etiquette tips.Raking BunkersThe biggest trend in golf maintenance is the amount of time and detail spent on bunker maintenance. Every morning our staff hand rake, adjust, measure and manicures our sand bunkers. We also set the rakes outside of the bunker in a position that takes into consideration the rules of golf, safety and golfers convenience. We expect all golfers to rake bunkers and to place rakes in a similar resting position to allow future players the same positioning and convenience. Ball RepairBall Repair should be an automatic response to a well struck shot. We encourage all golfers to carry a replacement tool and understand proper repair. If a ball mark is replaced immediately, it will recover in 2-3 days compared to 2 weeks if left not repaired. Some ball marks can be difficult to locate, when this occurs please look for other marks on the green and repair them. Dress & Equipment CodeGentlemen must have shirts with a collar. Women need an appropriate golf shirt. T-shirts, tank tops and denim are not allowed on the course. Soft spikes only are allowed on the Championship Course. All players are responsible for having their own set of golf clubs. Winter Activities on the Golf Courses(As adopted by the IVGID Board of Trustees on October 11, 2006) The Winter Access policy for the golf courses:
a. Allows snow activities (sledding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing)
anywhere on the Mountain Golf Course with the exception of the roped
off areas (greens). In-Season AccessAs a reminder, the current policy limits access to golfers with a tee time. During the golf season, safety is a major concern. There are golfers, maintenance vehicles and plant protectant materials on the golf course at any given time. Pre and Post season access
Maintenance vehicles will still be on the course and users must stay aware of their surroundings. The policy: Golf staff has the right to stop any activity at any time if it is deemed to be detrimental to the courses (low snow levels, dangerous activities, etc.). Violators will be given a verbal warning and a card explaining the policy. Repeat offenders will have their recreation privileges revoked, or the privileges of the people they are renting from.
